Recently I had a chance to do my first author visit, to my son's 3rd grade class. It turned out to be a great experience, but I was definitely a little nervous! I had gifted a copy of the book to the class when it first came out, and the teacher asked me if I would come in and do a reading and Q & A. The children had each thought about what they would like to ask in advance and written it on a post-it note, so when I sat down to begin, they were prepared with some great questions! I brought in some early drafts and sketches and talked about how the book came to be, which they seemed to really enjoy. A few days later my son came home with the loveliest thank you notes that each child made, and I have to say, reading them was truly the highlight of my author journey so far. It was a lot of fun, and I hope to do more in the future!
